CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC REDUCTIONISM AND A NEW HISTORICAL SOCIOLOGY FOR INTERNATIONAL-RELATIONS

This paper seeks to present a preliminary challenge to assumptions of universalism inherent in the present discipline of International Relations, and to look at the question differentiations in the global community both in terms of the practice and the theory of 'Other' forms of IR. It is suggested that Western IR might profit from closer cooperation with disciplines that examine the 'Other' and from direct cooperation with the scholarly communities of the 'Other'.
