SQUID gradiometer structures make it possible to measure magnetic field gradients (for example in biomagnetism or for nondestructive evaluation) also in rough unshielded environment Various types of planar de SQUID gradiometers based on a Nb/PbAuIn technology were designed and investigated. A main problem for the application of planar gradiometers is the existence of parasitic areas working as small additional magnetometers. An electronic gradiometer second order is used to suppress these effects and to reduce disturbances.
