摘要
Long fatigue cracks frequently grow at a much lower rate than short cracks because they are closed during part of the stress cycle. The critical crack length for the transition from "short" to "long" depends on the amplitude of stress intensity DELTA-K and on the stress ratio R. This dependence is explained using a numerical study of the crack flank contour.
