INTELLIGENT MANUAL - AN AID FOR PROCESS ENGINEERING

Knowledge engineering has gone beyond the limits of research laboratories and has begun to take a place within industrial reality. This paper presents an experience with the knowledge-acquisition phase of the construction of an intelligent manual for a cellulose company. The project was carried out in parallel with the construction of the plant, when a great amount of knowledge about the process and control of the plant was available. This had the benefit of accessing the best available experience, even if it was not always possible to count on the desired development environment. It had the inconvenience, however, of adding an additional disturbance to the plant engineers due to the necessary interviews and questionnaires.
