COMPOSITION OF LAYERED SILICATES IN A SERIES OF SOD-PODZOLIC SOILS

Study of a wide range of particle-size fractions has shown that with increasing differentiation of the mineral mass in the eluvial layer this mass becomes depleted of montmorillonite, illite, and chlorite and enriched with kaolinite. The proportion of the labile component decreases in mixed-layer illite-montmorillonite, and the thickness of the layer in which mixed-layer chlorite-vermiculite was identified increases.
