Perfectionism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder among parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

摘要
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the parents of children between 7-18 years of age with/without Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), in terms of perfectionism and ADHD diagnosis in Bursa sample. Materials and Methods: Sample was composed of 135 parents residing in Bursa province, who had children between 7-18 years of old with ADHD diagnosis and 135 parents whose children did not have ADHD. The participants were evaluated with Personal Information Form, Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale (ASRS) and Multidimentional Perfectionism Scale. Results: Total average scores of ADHD were higher in the parents of children with ADHD in comparison with the other group. There was a statistically significant relation in the demographical and clinical distribution of families between the parents of ADHD and nondiagnosed children. There was a significant relationship between ADHD and perfectionism concepts. Total perfectionism average scores were significantly higher in parents of ADHD children. Conclusion; Both the total average scores of ADHD and and total perfectionism average scores were significantly higher in the parents of ADHD children in comparison with the parents of the undiagnosed group.
