GENDER AND SEXUALITY AT SCHOOL - A proposal of Education and Health

This work is based on the research developed with teenagers and young people at public schools in the north districts of the city of Rio de Janeiro, between the years of 2003 and 2005. Its aim was to know and analyze the ways the 'Sexual Orientation', proposed by the 'Parametros Curriculares Nacionais', is being implemented. An interventionist research was performed. After an acknowledgement of the school daily habits and of the community's current conceptions about the discussed topic, an alternative strategy different from those, which are only based on information, was proposed, implemented, followed and evaluated. 'Workshops on education and health' were performed, where the following categories were evidenced: Gender, Sexuality, Reproductive Health and Health Promotion. Through its analysis, it became evident the importance of the accomplishment of a social-historical approach which emphasizes the connections of the studied categories with social class, ethnic, religion and others that are present in the constitution of the collective individual.
