THE NEW-ZEALAND EXPERIENCE

The New Zealand government began the process of deregulating the telecommunication sector in 1986. In this article the Chairman of the Commerce Commission, an independent statutory body which enforces the terms of legislation governing competition and trade, describes the experience of privatization so far, and outlines the conclusions of an inquiry into telecommunications conducted by the Commission.
