摘要
This paper presents a new self-routing switch for large-scale ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) switching systems. The switch consists of multiple interleaved banyan networks so that a cell which fails a contention can restart normal self-routing immediately at the next stage. A self-routing algorithm and output buffering effectively enhance the switching performance. It is shown that this switch can be easily engineered to a have high throughput and a low cell loss probability by increasing the number of switching stages. It is also shown that the hardware overhead is smaller than that of conventional self-routing switches, increasing nearly on the order of Nlog2N for a switch of size N.
