Sodium fluoride, NaF, was doped into calcium fluoride, CaF2, in order to enhance the fluoride ion conductivity in CaF2. The solubility limit of NaF was found to be around 1.7 mol% NaF. The conductivity of Ca1-xNaxF2-x increased with increasing NaF content within the solubility limit (0{slanted equal to or less-than}x{slanted equal to or less-than}0.017). The maximum conductivity at 500 K was 2.45×10-4 S cm-1 which was about five orders of magnitude higher than that of undoped CaF2. This value was also about ten times higher than the values which have been reported in the literature, so far. © 1990.
