摘要
A new method is introduced for configuring an efficient N x N optical passive star coupler, enabling construction of a one-piece coupler, hence, eliminating the excess loss problem associated with cascade couplers and reducing the structural complexity. A space varying refractive-index slab is introduced as a key design element for constructing such a coupler. A method using nonlinear optics is adopted for implementation of the coupler.
