TOXIC EFFECT OF HEAVY-METAL GRADIENTS ON BACTERIAL COMMUNITY OF RIVER GANGA

摘要
Agar plate supplementation method was used to assess the tolerance level of bacteria to four heavy metals commonly found in Ganga waters at Bhagalpur. Different concentration gradients (.001mM-1mM) of these metals were used. Colony counts revealed that bacteria are sensitive to heavy metals. The order of sensitivity was Hg > Cu > Pb > Zn.
