CHEMICAL POLYMORPHISM OF TWO Juniperus phoenicea SUB SPECIES ESSENTIAL OILS COLLECTED FROM TEN TUNISIAN LOCALITIES

摘要
The chemical composition of the essential oils of Tunisian Juniperus phoenicea ssp. turbinata and J. phoenicea ssp. phoenicea were studied using GC and GC/MS. Total, 68 components were identified representing 79.14 to 99.89% of all the oils analyzed. Amongst various identified components, alpha-pinene was the major component in J. phoenicea ssp. phoenicea essential oils collected from the mainland localities while J. phoenicea ssp. turbinata and J. phoenicea ssp. phoenicea (Tabarka) gathered from the coastal localities were dominated by terpinen-4-ol acetate. The principal component analysis (PCA) separated the J. phoenicea essential oils into six groups, each constituting a chemotype.
