摘要：
Mesua ferrea L. a well known medicinal plant widely used in indigenous system of medicine, has been reviewed for its chemical constituents and biological activity till the end of 1991. The stamens of the flowers of M. ferrea constitute the genuine Ayurvedic drug negkesar. However, various parts of the tree led to the isolation of interesting number of biogenetically related constituents viz. 4-phenyl, 4-alkyl coumarin, xanthenes, flavonoids, etc. besides good amount of useful oil from the seeds.
