THE INTERACTION OF CO WITH MONOLAYER POTASSIUM ON RU(001) STUDIED BY THERMAL-DESORPTION AND METASTABLE QUENCHING SPECTROSCOPY

摘要
From metastable quenching spectroscopy (MQS) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) we find that CO adsorbs well at 100 K on a monolayer of K deposited on Ru(001), but the sticking coefficient becomes negligible as the adsorption temperature is raised to 200 K. However once a (CO + K) layer has been prepared at 100 K, it remains stable up to temperatures as high as 500 K. In addition to the known CO and K MQS features, we also observe a peak which is not present with either of these adsorbates alone. Within the framework of the rehybridization model proposed by others, this peak may originate from the 1b2 orbital of rehybridized CO molecules.
