STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN HIGH-TEMPERATURE TREATMENT OF OXIDIZED POLYACRYLONITRILE FIBERS

摘要
A mechanism of gradual ordering of the structure in heat treatment of oxidized polyacrylonitrile fibres is proposed and consists of condensation of low-molecular-weight chain fragments of the unordered phase obtained during degradation in macromolecules which preserve the orientation as in the matrix. It was hypothesized that the temperature of 700 degrees C is the beginning of formation of ribbon structures. The formation of graphite-like parquet structures begins in the 800-1000 degrees C range. It was shown that elimination of nitrogen at 1000-1100 degrees C loosens the parquet structures and decreases the density of the fibre.
