ODOR CONTROL AT STRONGFORD SEWAGE-TREATMENT WORKS

Complaints about malodour from strongford began to accumulate from 1976 although in general these were not recorded systematically. The problem was exacerbated by the casual manner in which complaints were noted and reported. To identify the source and to quantify the nuisance, it was decided to: distribute a questionnaire to the complaints and collate the complaints in a uniform manner; carry out a preliminary site survey to ascertain the relative importance of the various processes to the malodour. This article discusses the survey results, how they were used to identify and control the odour problems, and what was done to control the problem.
