摘要：
The nonlinear diffusion equation u(t) = (u(m)u(x))x possesses an instantaneous source similarity solution only for m > -2. Here we discuss physically motivated initial-boundary value problems for which a solution exists for all values of m. For delta function initial conditions, the case m < -2 is characterised by persistence of the delta function for a finite time.
