摘要
Examines the impact of technological change on rural women in Turkey. I examine state-supported technical change through various phases of government policy, from inward growth to structural adjustment and liberalization, and the adoption behaviour of small family farms. The division of labour by gender can become increasingly imbalanced with women's participation in the production process taking on greater importance as the area of crop cultivation expands. The district of Igdir, where this research was conducted, lies in Kars Province, in northeast Turkey, a mountainous and considered to be one of Turkey's least-developed regions. However, Igdir is located in a valley with fertile land. Cereal and cash crops are the principal crops cultivated in the district's 54 villages. Igdir is irrigated by the Aras River, which became the Turco-Soviet border under the 1921 Gumru Covenant. The village of Ak was considered to be representative of the general pattern of field cultivation and land ownership prevailing in the region. -from Author
