COLLISIONAL ENERGY-TRANSFER BETWEEN CA(4P1P1-4P3PJ) AND QUENCHING OF CA(4P3PJ) AND CA(4P1D2) INDUCED BY XENON

摘要
Collisional energy transfer between the 4p 1P1-4p 3P(J) levels and quenching of the 4p 3p(J) and 4p 1D2 metastable calcium levels by xenon were studied. An energy transfer cross section of 1.19 +/- 0.10 angstrom-2 was measured. Quenching cross section of the metastable triplet was found to be less than 10(-7) angstrom-2. Collisional-induced intersystem crossing from the 4p 1P1 level to the 4p 3D(J) level followed by radiative decay to the 4p 3P(J) level is found to be the dominant energy transfer pathway.
