Restoration of the Church of Santa Maria de la Oliva (Villaviciosa)

Built in the transit between the XIII and the XIV century, Santa Maria de la Oliva is a pro-gothic church, being its origins closely linked at the creation of the village of Villaviciosa in 1270. This article explain the method and the acting criteria followed during the restoration works, that took place between the years 20062007, following traditional techniques and reintegrating the original materials. The intervention has implied a revision of the structure, change of the roof - with the creation of an air ventilated chamber over the wooden ceiling of the nave - installation of a water collecting system with a lineal drain in the perimeter of the apse and parallel at the North face of the nave, cleaning and anti-water treatment of the external stonework of the temple, cleaning-up of the stoned surface, internal plasters, and renovation of the installations.
