摘要
Contrary to the previously published report indicating that co-stabilizer was an essential component of reaction mixtures designed to generate monodisperse polystyrene particles, we have found that Aerosol OT, Triton N-57, and cetyl alcohol have no effect on the size, size distribution, and molecular weight of the particles formed. Our investigation of these reactions has covered a wider range of experimental parameters than the original work, and upon repeating the prior experiments, identical 2.5 micron monodisperse particles were obtained from Triton, cetyl alcohol, or AOT, and from reactions with no co-stabilizer. Good agreement with other selected results in the title paper was achieved. Therefore, we conclude that the so-called 'co-stabilizer' plays no role in the reaction.
