PHOTOIONIZATION OF EXCITED-STATES OF ATOMIC NITROGEN

The R-matrix method is used to obtain cross sections for the photoionization of the 2s22p3 2D-degrees, 2P-degrees; 2s22p2(3P)3s 4P, 2P; 2s2p4 4P, and 2s22p2(3P)3p 2S-degrees excited states of atomic nitrogen. Excellent accord is found with the calculation of Zeippen et al for the 2D-degrees and 2P-degrees metastable states and the cross sections for these two states are now believed known to a high degree of accuracy. The cross section for the 2S-degrees state differs from previous calculations and for this state a calculation is also performed for the asymmetry parameter beta and the results found to differ significantly from earlier work.
