摘要
A novel approach to the problem of on-line identification of cutting tool wear in a turning operation has been carried out through analysis of the tribe electro motive force generated at the tool-workpiece interface. The a.c. component of the tribe emf, which results from the Fermi effect, is analysed in the spectral domain and variation between properties of the spectra and the deterioration of cemented carbide tool inserts is investigated. A high degree of correlation is found between progressive attenuation of higher frequency components of the power spectra and the development of tool flank wear under varying cutting conditions.
