摘要
Ankle ligament lesions are one of the most common injuries. In 20-30% of cases ligament rupture can lead to chronic functional and/or mechanical ankle instability. In addition to subjective instability, ankle pain upon weight bearing leads to limitations regarding physical activity and work. The first-line treatment of chronic ankle instability is conservative to improve the range of motion, muscle control and proprioceptive function. If conservative treatment is inadequate, surgical intervention is necessary. Ankle arthroscopy should be performed prior to ligament reconstruction to detect and treat intraarticular lesions. Surgical techniques focus on the reconstruction of the lateral and medial ligament complex. Their aim is to restore ligament stability with suture anchors, transosseous fixation, or tendon grafts.
