Socio-demographic profile and performances of the students of the Odontology career (UdelaR)

The Teaching Support Unit from Faculty of Dentistry, Universidad de la Republica, presents the first approach related to who are dental students and how they perform at the entry and exit stages of the career. It is presented a demographic students profile from the data source 2007 Census and, it is described with institution's date the performance of several cohorts through the dimensions: academic performance, career progression and, rate and level of exit. The outstanding results of the study are: 1) a clearly feminized students profile, whose origin are divided almost equally on capital and the provinces of the country, mostly from public high schools (70%); 2) a level of delay and dropout around 50% at the first and second year of study; 3) a relatively slow rate of exit, however, reaches about 50% of terminal efficiency.
