Reforming police intelligence in the province of Buenos Aires

The transformation of criminal intelligence in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was carried out during the two stages of the provincial police and security reform (1998-1999; 2004-2007). After reviewing current approaches in this field, this article summarizes the reform policies, and the authoritarian legacies. Dissolution and rearrangement of police intelligence in 1998 is framed in normative, doctrinal innovations and training. On the strategy of hierarchization of intelligence implemented in 2004, preceded by a period of counter-reform, it is highlighted the creation by law of the unified databaseon organized crime. Substantive aspects of its practice are mentioned. The integration of information, analysis and technology was one of the paradigms of change.
