THE STRUCTURE AND SPECTROSCOPY OF H-BONDED BENZOXAZOLE DERIVATIVES

Two H-bonded systems: o-hydroxyphenylbenzoxazole and 3,6-(2-benzoxazolyl)-pyrocatechol were studied by means of IR spectroscopy in various environments: the isolated molecules in Ar matrices, "amorphous" (disordered) phase and the crystal layers. The results were discussed together with the X-ray crystal structure data and the photophysical behaviour of the systems. It is shown that the physical state of the sample controls the formation of the rare tautomeric and/or rotameric species in the ground state. © 1990.
