Fifteen species of benthic marine algae (3 species of green, 6 species of brown and 6 species of red algae) were analysed for K, Ca, Mg, Al, Fe, Cd, Cr, Co, Mn and Ni using ICAP emission spectrophotometer. A range of variation in elemental content was found within each species. In addition, different species have differing abilities to accumulate these elements from their environment.
