NEUTRAL PION-PHOTOPRODUCTION ON DEUTERONS IN THE RESONANCE ENERGY REGION

The gamma-d --> d-pi-0 process asymmetries for linearly polarized photons SIGMA and vector polarized deuterons T were calculated in terms of impulse approximation (IA). The IA is based on the factorization of the isovector gamma-N --> N-pi-0 amplitudes and the deuteron form factors. Several IA versions which include different gamma-N --> N-pi amplitudes, different deuteron wavefunctions and different Fermi momentum choices were used in the calculations. The available experimental data on the asymmetry SIGMA can be described in terms of the IA with a certain Fermi momentum choice. The asymmetry T energy and angular dependences are also sensitive to the Fermi momentum choice. Both asymmetries SIGMA and T are found to be rather large in the energy range considered, E-gamma < 800 MeV.
