摘要
Nasal disease in dogs can often be a frustrating and challenging disorder to diagnose and treat. Nasal discharge is a sign of nasal disease and not a diagnosis. The character, chronicity, and progression of nasal discharge are important to determine; therefore, a thorough history and physical examination are essential. Nasal radiographs, rhinoscopy, and biopsy are usually needed to reach a definitive diagnosis. The diagnostic workup of nasal disease can be rewarding if a systematic approach is followed. Using readily available equipment and some specialized biopsy techniques, a diagnosis can usually be made. Nasal biopsies should be obtained even when an obvious lesion cannot be visualized. A practical approach to developing a diagnostic plan for nasal disease in dogs is presented. Methods for obtaining suitable nasal biopsies are also described.
