Cable TV, a tool for catalysing the foreign satellites programme invasion from the skies, in the absence of any regulations in India, registered a mushroom growth and has today become a house-hold service. The sluggish policy making mechanism, initially opposed to Dish Antennae, the major signal source in Cable TV, in spirit, suddenly nose-dived to support transportation of Doordarshan Metro bonanza to the viewers via the cable route. This ex-post-facto reconciliation is to be viewed with caution in the light of a hurriedly presented Cable TV regulatory bill introduced in the parliament. This paper has endeavoured presentation of a bird's-eye-view of the perspective on this novel phenomenon and the profession of cable television network operation.
