TRANSPORT-PROPERTIES OF AL65CU15CO20 AND AL70NI15CO15 DECAGONAL QUASI-CRYSTALS

摘要
The temperature-dependent resistivity of the two-dimensional quasicrystals Al65Cu15Co20 and Al70Ni15Co15 is studied along the periodic direction (rho-p) and in the quasiperiodic plane (rho-q) from 4.2 to 600 K. A transport anisotropy of <rho-q/rho-p> congruent-to 8 is measured. In both materials rho-p is metallic and can be described by a semiclassical electron-phonon scattering model. For rho-q a nonmetallic behavior is found, suggesting a phonon-assisted tunneling mechanism.
