摘要
Objective: Detect the knowledge of women interned in rooming about their self-care and care for the newborn. Method: Descriptive exploratory study, with 30 mothers, in rooming-in care and participants of the educational practices of motherhood in the HUGG/UNIRIO, in 2009. Results: The categorization was based in the division established in the form: 1) Self-care of puerperal; 2) Care in breastfeeding and feed of mothers; 3) Care with newborn; 4) Rights and duties of parents and newborns and their exams. Conclusion: there is still a considerable number of women with a deficit in knowledge regarding her their care in the puerperium and the care of the newborn. We stress that is entirely the responsibility of nursing staff being with the mothers, the natural process of informing and postpartum care of the newborn, respecting their values and beliefs, care should always be a tradeoff between the nurse and the puerperium.
