摘要
Thin-walled square tubes of aluminium and mild steel were subjected to lateral compression between two opposing wedge-shaped and flat-faced indenters of narrow width, in an Instron machine. Typical histories of their deformation, load-compression response and the energy absorbed during collapse are discussed. An analysis based on the formation of plastic hinges is presented to describe the geometry changes and collapse behaviour of the tubes and the results obtained thereby are compared with the experiments. © 1990.
