Morphological and histochemical aspects of the male gonad of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae)

This work refers to the morphology and histochemistry of the male gonad of the fresh water shrimp Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man, 1896). The morphologic and histochemical aspects of the male gonad were analysed by using histologic and histochemical techniques in historesin sections, analysed in light microscopy, with special reference to the germinative cells during the spermatogenic process; The results obtained revealed. the spermatogonads to be the generating source of new ones and to form the primary spermatocites by mytosis which develop to spermatids by meiosis.
