摘要
Intelligent transport systems (ITS) are applications in transport systems based onmodern information and communication technologies. There are a large number of different applications in several areas of traffic and transport which involve numerous stakeholders from the public and industrial sector. Beside the technological and institutional complexity there is also a high dynamic in the development of ITS. In order to give some guidelines for decision making some important development paths are identified in this paper. Some basic approaches and phases in the evolution of ITS are discussed as well as some major themes and conditions. Some trends can be identified which lead to an outlook on further developments and possible actions.
