ENDOSCOPIC EVALUATION OF PATIENTS WITH DYSPEPSIA IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

摘要
BACKGROUND Dyspepsia is a common presentation among the individuals attending the medical or surgical outpatient department to the general hospitals. The dietary habits, food pattern, socioeconomic status made the symptoms of dyspepsia more prevalent in rural and semi-urban areas. MATERIALS AND METHODS The prospective study was conducted at a general hospital for the patients with complaints of dyspepsia. RESULTS Epigastric discomfort and the postprandial fullness are the common symptoms of dyspepsia. The spicy food, smoking and habits of alcohol intake are the important causes of dyspepsia. CONCLUSION The patient with dyspepsia who are older than 50 years of age and/or those with alarm features should undergo endoscopic evaluation.
