摘要
We investigate the effect of a high-intensity laser on the spin-dependent energy of a hydrogen atom. We use the high-frequency approximation for arbitrary polarization of the laser field. Spin is an intrinsically relativistic effect so we use our relativistic generalization of this method. We find a spin-dependent term which can dominate the usual spin-orbit form in many cases. The two terms are discussed in detail for both linear and circular polarization. We find that in general the effect of the laser is to suppress the spin-dependent energy splittings significantly.
