DIALLEL ANALYSIS OF YIELD AND OTHER TRAITS IN COTTON

Six cotton cultivars (Gossypium hirsutum L. var. latifolium Hutch) and their hybrid combinations were analyzed in a complete diallel. Yield, boil weight and earliness showed greater dominance than additive variance components, although both were significant. The additive component was more important for number of bells per plant, plant height and fiber maturity. Yield showed low heritability (estimated to be 0.19), controlled predominantly by dominant genes. The cultivar with the greater concentration of favorable alleles for this trait is CNPA 3H.
