Using the vibrating reed (VR) technique, the temperature dependence of the lower critical field BC1 (T) of a single crystal Y(Gd6%)Ba2Cu3O6.83 has been measured. The deviation from perfect diamagnetism determined from the resonance frequency of the reed is consistent with the increase of the damping caused by the flux line motion. With magnetic field applied parallel to the ab plane we obtain BC1(0) = 750 G. If the clean limit is assumed, the measured value of BC1(0)/(TC·(dBC1/dT)Tc) = 0.51 ∓ 0.04 indicates the presence of strong coupling effects. © 1990, Elsevier Science Publishers B.V. (North-Holland).
