摘要
Hydrogen causes softening in high purity iron at temperatures between 200K and 300K. The softening is not transient. Hydrogen causes hardening below 200K. It is caused by pinning of kinks on screw dislocations. The effect of hydrogen on the yield and flow stresses of iron depends on specimen characteristics and experimental conditions. In particular, the purity, charging conditions and temperatures are important factors controlling the effect.
