RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN MEASURING TECHNIQUES AND DIAGNOSTIC INTERPRETATION OF THE HEARTS ELECTRIC-FIELD (REVIEW)

This is a brief review of the reports at the 21st International Congress on Electrocardiology (June 3-7, Yokohama, Japan) at which topics both experimental and theoretical concerning the measurement and interpretation of the electric potentials of the heart and related problems were discussed. Beside the numerous reports concerning clinical studies of the electric changes in both normal and diseased hearts, some critical reviews were presented. Recent results concerning the subtle mechanisms of the genesis of the extracellular cardiac electric field were reported, and assessments were made of noninvasive methods for detecting electrophysiological. functions and the states of the heart and their clinical applications.
