AQUEOUS FILMS IN GLASS WATER AIR AND GLASS WATER HYDROCARBON SYSTEMS IN A CONSTANT ELECTRIC-FIELD

摘要
The electrical conductivity of systems consisting of a glass capillary filled with a 10(-1) M aqueous solution of KCl ("water") with one drop (on the form of a "column") of decane or air, which have a film of water between the surface of the capillary and the lateral surface of the column, has been measured. The changes occurring with time in such systems under the effects of a constant electric field and in the absence of such a field until the establishment of the corresponding states of mechanical equilibrium have been traced. The mean thickness of the films of water have been calculated. It has been established that in the states of mechanical equilibrium they were 10-100 times greater in a constant electric field than in its absence and that in a constant electric field they were greater in the system with air than in the system with decane, while in the absence of a field they were greater in the system with decane.
