Arthroscopic Anterior Shoulder Stabilization in the Beach Chair Position Using Trans-Subscapularis Drilling of the 5: 30 Anchor

Although open anterior stabilization and capsular shift has been traditionally thought of as the "gold standard" for anterior shoulder instability, arthroscopic anterior stabilization has become the procedure of choice for most surgeons. The lateral decubitus position is known to provide excellent access to all areas of the glenohumeral joint allowing instability repairs to be easily accomplished. Some investigators feel that the low glenoid is difficult to access in the beach chair position. With proper patient positioning and cannula placement, successful arthroscopic anterior stabilization can also be achieved in the beach chair position. In this surgical technique, we describe arthroscopic anterior shoulder stabilization and labral repair in the beach chair position using trans-subscapularis placement of the inferior- most anchor at the 5:30 position.
