STRESS INTENSITY FACTORS FOR CORNER CRACKS AT HOLES SUBJECTED TO BIAXIAL AND PIN LOADS

Stress intensity factors (SIFs) of comer cracks emanating from fastener holes in finite plates subjected to biaxial load and three types of pin load, i.e. uniform, concentration and cosine distributed pin loads, are obtained on the basis of SIFs for through cracks by introduction of modifying factors for comer crack geometries, which are evaluated by empirical fit for some carefully selected numerical results. The influence of various geometrical parameters and loading conditions on the SIFs is analysed. It is shown that the SIFs of a comer crack are very sensitive to the loading condition. Comparison with some available numerical solutions shows that the present results are sufficiently accurate and convenient for engineering applications.
