Luis de Belmonte Bermudez (ca. 1587-ca. 1649) is the author of several plays (some nineteen) written by himself and in collaboration with authors such as Mira de Amescua, Velez de Guevara, and Calderon de la Barca, among others. This one-act play, Sierra morena de las mujeres, is one of his eight entremeses. It deals with the topic of banditry (dealt with in a burlesque or carnivalesque manner) as performed by women in the city of Madrid. This article offers an exhaustive comparison with other entremeses and works by Belmonte Bermudez.
