The Internal Return Migraciones in Spain: from the Individual to the Family Perspective

In this paper, we illustrate the individual and family perspective of internal return migration to the region of birth in Spain from census data in the early 1990's. This study analyses the determination of individual and family flows linked to the return migration, the populations at risk to return, the construction of different types of return flows; and finally and the calculation of relative intensities of the phenomenon from the individual and family perspectives. The main hypothesis states that the individual perspective is inadequate for the study of the return migration process; the introduction of the family and gender perspective permits a better understanding of the phenomenon and its demographic implications.
