The vascular plants of Fort Devens, Massachusetts

As part of the process of dosing Fort Devens in north central Massachusetts, an intensive two year survey of vascular plants growing in the undeveloped area (6700 acres) of the fort was completed. A total of 857 naturally occurring taxa in 394 genera and 121 families were identified, including 18 rare taxa and 29 county records. The unusual diversity of taxa for the area is due to several factors which include land use history and the physical setting, as well as management practices and military activity which created or maintained early and mid-successional habitats.
