Habitat preferences among forest stand types ranging from clearcuts to stands in excess of 100 years, but not virgin, and seasonal activity from May to August 1992, of 17 species of Carabidae collected in pitfall traps in the Appalachian region of western Maryland are reported. Five of the 17 species represent new state records.
